A Chic, Organic Wedding at a Private Residence in Boalsburg, Pennsylvania

Natural wood accents, gold details and lush greenery lent a decidedly organic feel to Shannon Hovick (27 and a graphic designer) and Michael Thigpen’s (28 and works in wealth management) summer fete.

Immediately after sealing the deal under a tree draped with gauzy white fabric, the newlyweds walked back up the aisle to the sound of guests ringing 50 cowbells. “Michael and I got engaged on top of a Spanish mountain with the sound of grazing cows wearing cowbells in the distance,” Shannon says. “We figured there was no better way to start our marriage than to that sound, paired with the added cheers of our family and friends.”

“We reminded ourselves throughout the planning process that the point of a wedding was to get married,” Shannon says. “If we achieved that, then the wedding would be a success.”

Guests sat down to a Spanish-style meal that called for large pitchers of sweet sangria and an array of decadent tarts and pies. “We wanted our reception to feel like one giant dinner party, so we placed all of the tables close together and served the food family style,” Shannon says.

String lights, worn rugs and burlap-wrapped trees lent an intimate look to the tented reception.
