A Chic Romantic Wedding at a Private Estate in Lahaina, Hawaii

For Meghan Kiernan (38 and works in advertising) and Travis Noel (40 and works in law enforcement), an intimate setting that was warm, inviting and close to Maui, Hawaii’s beautiful beaches was essential when planning their early April wedding. “We wanted a place that felt like home so that everyone could relax, swim and enjoy great food and dancing with a great view of the ocean,” says Meghan. Via Exotic Estates, the couple rented out a private estate for the week, where they were able to kick back and celebrate with their loved ones all week long.

On the day of the wedding, the couple gathered together with their guests at a nearby Episcopal church with a spacious lawn that afforded stunning vistas of the Pacific Ocean. An ukulele filled the air with the lighthearted sounds of Train’s “Marry Me” and Jason Mraz’s “I’m Yours,” and strands of white orchids and shimmering crystals dangling from the couple’s wedding arch swayed gently in the breeze. They exchanged traditional vows, as well as ones they wrote themselves to honor their family. “Instead of a candle lighting, we had a sand ceremony to symbolize the joining of our souls and to honor the beach where we made the commitment,” says Meghan.

The newlyweds and their guests then headed back to the “Majestic Maui” estate for a night of al fresco dining and dancing. Atop each reception table, fresh bunches of bright white orchids and hydrangeas spilled out of modern glass vases, delivering a healthy dose of romance to the scene, heightened by the addition of brightly lit votive candles. “Everything was white with a soft sand color to highlight the beach aspect of our wedding,” says Meghan. “The theme revolved around these gorgeous, giant white orchids, which I’ve loved ever since I can remember. There were orchids everywhere!” While cool white hues reigned supreme, a colorful cupcake tower dripping in orange and purple orchids injected a pop of vibrancy and energy to the decor, as did playful pink cards placed on each table displaying bible verses that spoke to the couple’s hearts.

A tip for the taking from Meghan and Travis: “We highly recommend a smaller, destination wedding for an intimate-yet- elegant celebration. Maui is the perfect setting and has the ideal ambiance for a wedding. We customized every detail to reflect who we are and our values as a family. You can absolutely make things fit who you are and what is important to you no matter where you choose to hold the wedding.”
