A Circus-Themed Wedding at The Ford Piquette Avenue Plant in Detroit, Michigan
For their Detroit wedding, Ashley King (27 and accountant at Plante Moran) and Jeremy Lenzo (28 and Mayday Parade musician) looked to the birthplace of the Model T to celebrate their big day. With the old car factory lending an urban element to their October nuptials, the couple chose to keep things simple for the start of the ceremony. "The atmosphere of the venue already had so much character that not much needed to be added," Ashley explains. But soon after Ashley and Jeremy said "I do", guests were treated to a dramatic, carnival-themed wedding — complete with circus performers. "We dropped subtle hints about the circus theme, but wanted it to be a surprise when guests arrived at the cocktail hour," Ashley explains. At the historical Detroit, Michigan, museum, DIY-details – from a 5-tier red and black wedding cake to black-and-white-striped table numbers – gave their wedding day a dramatic, yet completely unique touch. "With the help of my fiance, my parents and my sister, I was able to create the wedding of my dreams," Ashley says. "Every little detail from the decorations on the cake to the wooden circus tickets was ours, which made everything so special."
