A Classic Jewel Tone Wedding at The Rainbow Room in New York City

Alexis Farah and Nick Hart pulled off a classic big city wedding with bright, textured blooms and New York City–inspired touches at The Rainbow Room in Midtown. “I joke that Nick was born in the wrong decade,” Alexis says. “He loves black-and-white movies and jazz from the ’50s and ’60s, so it was fitting that we picked an iconic New York City haunt whose history is as rich as the desserts. Since its opening in 1934, The Rainbow Room has hosted everyone from Noel Coward and Duke Ellington to Lady Gaga.” The pair played up the venue’s sleek, modern vibe with Big Apple–themed place cards, floral arrangements in punchy jewel tones that matched Alexis’s royal-blue wedding dress and a showstopping black-and-white cake that mirrored the city skyline. The focal point of the evening was the view—the city’s twinkling lights could be seen from every angle. As a nod to the locale, soft pretzels were served during cocktail hour, and Greenwich Village’s Café Wha? House Band provided the tunes that got guests up and out of their chairs. Halfway through the evening, Nick surprised everyone by grabbing his guitar and joining the band on stage for a rendition of “Love Rollercoaster” by Ohio Players. “Because a wedding’s success is measured by the number of people dancing, we offered guests flip-flops to keep their feet feeling fresh, and kept them energized with mini grilled cheeses, sliders and cookies,” Alexis says.
