A Classic-Meets-Modern Wedding at a Private Residence in Tegucigalpa, Honduras

A vibrant Brazilian Carnival fused with traditional garden-inspired romance when Monique Kafie (28 and a business administrator) wed Gabriel de Lamare (30 and a business administrator). Their ceremony took place at Iglesia San Francisco, the oldest chapel in Tegucigalpa, Honduras—near Monique’s childhood home. After the ceremony—the officiating cardinal spoke Portuguese to honor Gabriel’s Brazilian heritage—the newlyweds and their 700 guests headed to Monique’s family home. The outdoor classic-meets-modern reception called to mind a chic enchanted garden. The palette was centered on green with touches of muted pinks and blue grays, plus plenty of silvery metallic accents. Guests celebrated amid large hanging lanterns, a mirror-topped dining table with clear chairs, textured silver vase centerpieces and gray lounge furniture. Long after dinner and several international-themed desserts—including Brazilian bem-casados, pastries and a gelato cart—a troop of Carnival dancers revved up the party with drumming, dancing and neon regalia. —Carolyn Meers
