A Classic, Preppy Wedding at a Private Residence in Belleville, Illinois
Despite the size of their 257-person guest list, newlyweds Kate Pietroburgo (29 and an account executive) and Charlie Effinger (32 and a senior financial analyst) managed to make their ceremony at a St. Louis cathedral feel cozy. Large brass urns flanked the altar, and clusters of fragrant eucalyptus lined the length of the aisle. “I’ve always been in love with the Old Cathedral,” Kate says of the recently renovated parish. “Its size made our somewhat large wedding feel intimate.” Post-ceremony, guests made the short trip to the couple’s hometown of Belleville, Illinois, where the revelry continued on the bride’s family’s 15-acre estate and vineyard. Metallic candlesticks, marble slabs and repurposed clawfoot bathtubs added interest to the tented reception, where partygoers indulged in homemade limoncello bottled by Kate’s aunts. Kate’s mother upholstered the newlywed’s dining chairs with custom monograms. “It was such a cool, special touch,” Kate says. Antique sofas and velvet wingback chairs created cozy lounge vignettes, and whiskey and cigar bars served as another reprieve from the busy dance floor. Otis Redding’s “That’s How Strong My Love Is” served as the soundtrack to the couple’s first dance. “We wanted something that was a little old school with a lot of soul,” Katie says.
