A Classic Spring Wedding at the Wadsworth Mansion at Long Hill in Middletown, Connecticut
Anna Stempien (33 and a pediatric nurse practitioner) had always dreamed of getting married outdoors in Connecticut. So when she and Philip Fields (37 and a pharmacist) started planning their wedding, they knew exactly where to turn. The Wadsworth Mansion in Middletown, Connecticut, provided a beautiful backdrop for the classic affair, with its perfectly manicured lawns, natural setting and striking neo-classical architecture that exuded old-world elegance. “They have gorgeous grounds, as well as perfect spaces for an indoor-outdoor reception,” Anna says. “I also wanted a simple yet elegant feel, which this venue captured.” The venue required little in the way of decoration, leading the couple to choose an understated palette of white and navy with pops of fresh green. They then looked to cheerful spring blooms, artfully arranged by Terri Krisavage Weddings & Events, to bring the Wadsworth Mansion to life. Navy-and-white-striped ribbon was woven throughout the ceremony and reception, infusing the decor with a playfully preppy vibe. Ensuring guests had a great time was high on Anna and Philip’s priority list, so top-notch entertainment was a must. “We really just wanted everyone to have fun. That was the most important thing to us,” Anna says. The couple hired a 16-piece big band to play throughout the day, breaking into a smaller group during the ceremony and cocktail hour, then joining together to tear it up during the reception. A tip from Anna: “Try to take in every second of every moment, not just that day, but in all the details and moments leading up to that day. It goes by way too fast.”
