A Classic, Summer Wedding at Cap and Gown Club in Princeton, New Jersey

If “The Great Gatsby” took place in this century, it would look like Tiffany Andras (29 and a lawyer) and Joe Cerreta's (28 and in investment banking) summer wedding. Taking a page from F. Scott Fitzgerald, the couple filled their day with character-inspired signature drinks and art deco-worthy centerpieces reminiscent of the book. Kina Wicks Photography captured the couple taking their descent down the aisle to “Flapper Girl” by the Lumineers. The title served as a nod to the 1920s, and a “big Cadillac” in the lyrics alludes to a moment in the book. The cocktail hour, however, took things to a new level. Guests started the lavish Gatsby party with a signature cocktail: the Daisy or the Old Sport. (Both refer to Nick and Daisy, characters in the novel.) Of course, it didn’t end there. Glamorous sequin linens and fluffy ostrich feathers decorated every long table at their tented reception. The added greenery and surrounding white lisianthus arrangements put a modern spin on the day, which we love. The incredible gold, blush and blue details, coordinated by Anne Book Signature Style, are keeping us captivated.

“Our custom save-the-dates were my favorite,” Tiffany says. “We had an artist sketch a map of Princeton with drawings of our favorite personal landmarks, including the spots where we met on campus and where we would be getting married and the athletic fields where we both played for Princeton.” Each festive card from Magnificent Milestones fit their color scheme with gold detailing on a classic ivory background.
Their outdoor ceremony was the picture of summer with bright flowers and soft cascading details. Pink and white ombre flower petals filled the aisle between rows of wooden folding chairs. A bunch of white hydrangeas on pink ribbons marked the entrance, adding a more natural feel to the design.
Each bridesmaid paired the couple’s royal blue wedding color with a little personal flair. They donned classic knee-length J.Crew dresses with their favorite necklines. To give the women a more cohesive look, Tiffany gifted them T-strap neutral wedges and asked that they wear statement jewelry. “Since the dresses were classic and simple, I wanted the accessories to be bold,” Tiffany says.
For her bridal bouquet, Tiffany put a modern twist on the classic all-white arrangement. Viburnum Designs filled it with chic French anemones, white peonies and gold seeded eucalyptus. A white satin ribbon loosely gathered each stem for a natural look.
Tiffany and Joe highlighted the Cap and Gown Club’s scenery with matching natural decor. Each guest sat in a wooden folding chair as pink and white ombre petals marked the aisle. A chic backdrop of white rose blooms hanging from a nearby tree brought the decor to new heights. The ceremony's position was also intentional. “Because Joe was a member of the neighboring University Cottage Club, we chose an angle where the ceremony backdrop would be Cottage,” Tiffany says.
Every part of Joe’s wedding day look had his own personal touch. He suited up in a custom light gray look from Suitsupply with a navy polka-dot tie, a navy-trimmed pocket square and a white shirt. Fitting their summer fete, he donned a natural white freesia, gold-seeded eucalyptus and feather boutonniere on his notched lapel. (As a memento from his Princeton days, Joe also donned his 2006 Ivy League football championship ring.)
“Vera Wang describes it as spicy, and that’s exactly how I felt when I first put on the dress,” Tiffany says. She sported a chic asymmetrical mermaid-style dress with organza flowers along the overlay, crisscross ruching and a bold halter-strap neckline. The glamorous beaded detail on her shoulder and organza overlay made it even more chic.
The couple’s custom stationery from Magnificent Milestones captured that classic feel Tiffany loves from “The Great Gatsby” with a little modern twist. Each name and location had a regal, gold-embossed script against—get this—a light gray and ivory chevron background. A blush envelope held it all together.
The cocktail hour had a more literal depiction of their literary inspiration. Similar to the glitzy days of “The Great Gatsby,” each cocktail table on the Cap and Gown Club in Princeton, New Jersey, lawn had a shimmering gold sequin linen. Low white tulip and other floral centerpieces gave them a more modern touch.
Aptly named after characters in “The Great Gatsby,” their signature drinks put a modern twist on the art deco style. Guests had the option of the Daisy, a pink grapefruit mojito, or the Old Sport. A reference to the character Nick, the latter drink included a mix of bourbon and ginger.
With such a bold design, guests were sure to see the couple’s entrance table. They placed each ivory calligraphy card from Magnificent Milestones on bold purple sequin and satin linens. Tiered white candlesticks, tealight candles and lush bouquets surrounded every row, creating a glamorous display.
For their round reception tables, Tiffany and Joe chose something simple and classic. Florists from Viburnum Designs arranged each low centerpiece with white hydrangeas, white peonies, blush roses and hints of gold-seeded eucalyptus. Tall white candlesticks in cylinder glass vases surrounded each one.
Their menu cards captured the day’s color scheme with a hint of art deco style. Wrapped in a geometric border and delicate details, each one featured a navy blue font on an all-white background. Magnificent Milestones created the custom design for all the stationery.
Inspired by the 1920s, Tiffany worked with La Jolie Salon and Spa to style her hair into a vintage look. Her side bang curled into a finger wave updo for a classic style. The silver art deco-worthy pins from Nordstrom enhanced her look. She looked nothing short of classic as she and Joe shared a kiss during the reception.
Guests found their ivory escort cards atop a glamorous purple sequin-covered entrance table. For Tiffany and Joe, their seating style was a little different. The couple's head table had each navy place card already set by their seats. These displays included a chic navy card with formal gold script font.
These family-style reception tables looked like they came straight out of the 1920s. Each metallic linen-covered station had bold white ostrich feather centerpieces and leaves inside glistening gold cylinder vases. Lower displays of white lisianthus, white roses and greenery separated each one from within its own silver vase.
On top of a four-tier cake, Tiffany and Joe treated their guests to a table of sweets. French macarons covered in sprinkles were just the tipping point. Olives, a local restaurant, also served chocolate-covered strawberries and mini cannoli. (Yum!) A matching white ribbon tag highlighted each plate.
“The wedding cake was one area where we decided to go simple on decoration and big on taste,” Tiffany says. Set below layers of white buttercream frosting, blue trim and a blue ribbon bow topper, was a hazelnut-flavored confection. White buttercream also separated each layer.
Stationed below tassel-covered banners, Tiffany and Joe took their first dance to “Maybe I’m Amazed” by Paul McCartney. “Not only is it a beautiful, classic song, but it was also slow and short so that we didn’t need to take dancing lessons before our big day,” Tiffany says. “It was one of the only times all evening that we had time to talk “alone” and reflect on how amazing everything was going.”
