A Classic Summer Wedding at the Island House in Johns Island, South Carolina

High school sweethearts Haley Wilson (22 and a teacher) and Dillard Stephens (23 and a medical student) met when Dillard transferred schools and Haley couldn’t help but notice the cute new boy in her class. The duo threw a seaside wedding at the Island House in Johns Island, South Carolina, near Charleston, that focused on simple elegance with a neutral palette of blush pink and white. The muted tones were used in the blush-colored, strapless, chiffon bridesmaid dresses by Mori Lee as well as in all the bouquets and floral arrangements. A medley of blush and white roses, garden roses, dusty miller and hydrangeas were used plentifully to decorate this summer soiree. Creatively, Haley incorporated her mother-in-law's jade necklace by wrapping it around the stems of her bouquet as her "something borrowed." The men wore preppy blush pink bow ties paired with their navy suits, and the flower girls had halos of fresh baby’s breath tied in their hair to create a romantic atmosphere. Rows of white chairs and umbrellas set up on the lawn on the Island House faced the water during the ceremony. “At the end of the aisle, we had a custom-built 12-foot cross covered in greenery and hydrangeas,” Haley says. The reception was held under airy blush drapes hanging from the ceiling of a white tent, “along with fans and misters to help with the summer heat,” she says. Traditional Charleston cuisine was served at stations around the tent to guests, which included Lowcountry Boil, barbecue, mashed sweet potatoes and more. “I feel the venue was a direct reflection of our relationship,” Haley says. “It was a fun, outdoor wedding venue that allowed everyone to have a good time, socialize, and relax.” —Juliette Cheatham
