A Classic Wedding at Sonnenalp Hotel in Vail, Colorado
Taylor Stilp (26 and a bridal stylist) and David Truex (30 and a private equity portfolio manager) met through mutual friends. The couple took a trip up to the mountains one weekend to go hiking. “I just thought we were taking our dog, Louie, up to the lake for a swim, but after a short walk Dave stopped and started setting up our camera in a tree,” Taylor says. “I didn’t think anything of it because I always complained about how we never had any picture of the two of us. After he finally set the camera up, he turned me towards him (I was a bit confused because I thought that we were just taking a picture together), reached into his pocket, and proposed. I don’t remember exactly what he said. I was so excited and screamed, ‘Yes!’ Little did I know he was setting the camera up to take a video of the proposal.” Taylor and Dave wanted to enjoy the beauty of the mountains in Vail, Colorado, and didn’t want a classic ballroom-style wedding. They loved the indoor and outdoor options at Sonnenalp’s Ludwig’s Terrace because of its retractable roof. That way, no matter what the weather decided to do, the wedding would not be affected. They decorated with a blue and coral color palette to keep it simple and seasonly appropriate. However, Taylor’s favorite part was her custom dress by Tara LaTour. Taylor picked different elements from different styles and asked Tara to design something for her. Taylor saw the dress a month before the wedding and fell in love all over again.
