A Colorful Ethiopian Wedding at the Empire Room in Dallas, Texas

Helina Wolde Medhin (31 and a marketing director) and Kidus Getahun (32 and an electrical engineer) honored their Ethiopian heritage with a traditional three-day wedding, including an Ethiopian Orthodox Church ceremony, a Western celebration with an outdoor ceremony and an Ethiopian reception. For all three occasions, the couple focused on rich jewel tones for the reception and attention-grabbing entertainment, like live dancers, during the traditional Ethiopian events. The couple's tribute to their family included the incorporation of over 50 wedding photos of family and friends in table numbers and centerpieces. "From grandparents and parents to aunts and uncles to cousins and siblings, it brought warm and fuzzies to see their reactions to their wedding photos displayed at the reception," Helina says. "The purpose was to celebrate not only our union but our love and the commitment shared by all married couples on such a special day." —Allie Volpe
