A Colorful Interfaith Wedding at Doe Creek Farm in Pembroke, Virginia
In just seven months, Danielle Wang (30 and an attorney) and Rohan Kalyan (35 and a professor) pulled off a two-day affair with three ceremonies and four dresses. “Given that both Indian and Chinese weddings are so lively, we chose bright, bold colors centered around red, which is the heart of the Indian and Chinese wedding palette,” Danielle says. The wedding blended traditions effortlessly, as seen with the favors that mixed bottle openers with a double happiness symbol and lucky elephant luggage tags. The couple booked Doe Creek Farm for their multi-event celebration because of its sweeping views. The pair had both a Hindu ceremony under a mandap and a Chinese tea ceremony using the bride’s family china. Centerpieces with zinnias, lilies and snapdragons brought color to the gold-accented reception. Danielle’s bright qipao honored her own heritage, while mehndi, applied two days before the wedding, paid tribute to Rohan’s. The groom and his family took part in a baraat with bright balloons in hand.
