A Colorful Mountaintop Wedding at Timber Ridge Lodge in Keystone, Colorado

“The key was balancing the boldness of Indian style with the rustic simplicity of the mountains,” Winnie Agarwal (28 and works at Facebook) says. She wed Nik Talwar (28 and a hedge fund sector head) at a summit 12,000 feet in the air. The couple blended traditional Hindu elements, such as Nik’s baraat on a white horse, with modern elements and classic Colorado details, like a gondola ride to the venue. Since they met in their college dining hall, they also snuck in throwbacks to their university days, including an epic entrance to Jay Sean’s “Down.” Winnie got a surprise while wedding dress shopping: Vera Wang personally offered to dye one of her gowns red, since Indian brides don’t typically wear white, so she wore it to the reception. The couple kept the ceremony traditional but the mandap modern, with sunflowers and the Rocky Mountains as the stunning backdrop. A mountain motif on the cake reflected Winnie’s love of Colorado, where she grew up skiing as a child. Winnie dressed in a red and gold lehenga and emerald jewelry (her birthstone), while Nik sported a sherwani for their vows. “It was important to pay homage to the culture while reflecting our style,” she says. They stuck to a clean aesthetic for dinner, with petite wildflower arrangements on the tables.
