The Bride Alexis Michie, 31, an actuarial analyst The Groom Toby Russell, 32, works in property management The Date October 22 Although Alexis and Toby loved the organic, natural look of their outdoor venue, they also preferred more modern colors like gray, yellow, and dusty lavender. To bridge the two ideas, the couple came up with a contemporary twist on a garden wedding theme, including some sleek elements, like the cake and flowers, alongside nature-inspired accents and the flora-filled setting.

Alexis tucked a simple ostrich feather hairpiece into her curly updo.
Neutral-colored elements, like dusty miller leaves and silver brunia berries, let the yellow pincushion proteas in Alexis's bouquet stand out.
Guests grabbed small jars of local wildflower honey, which provided an extra pop of yellow at the reception, on their way out.
A wall of windows created a modern backdrop for the couple’s vow exchange.
Alexis sewed this chic gray pillow and tied on false wedding bands for the ring bearer to carry.
Limiting the cake’s decor to two gray bands and a few sugar flowers kept it looking streamlined and mod.
Clear glass vases held an eclectic mix of blooms: roses, pincushion proteas, mums, and succulents.
Alexis found this wooden birdcage to display at the welcome table. Guests dropped cards inside.
