A Country-Chic Pastel Wedding at Cedar Creek Resort in Columbia, Missouri
Abby Grimmett (26 and a customer experience manager) and Ryan Morimura’s (25 and a news reporter) wedding exuded rustic elegance with their pastel color palette and DIY details. The couple exchanged vows at Trinity Presbyterian Church for a traditional religious ceremony. “We didn't want [our ceremony] to be in a huge church, but we wanted a cozy, intimate feel," Abby says. "We found Trinity Presbyterian, a beautiful church tucked in a woodsy area in Columbia. We fell in love with the vaulted wood ceiling and angelic stained glass.” Although Abby and Ryan had originally planned to have their guests dance under the stars at the reception, a Missouri thunderstorm forced the couple to have a tented reception at Cedar Creek Resort. However, the resulting gorgeous sunset completely made up for it. “It was a beautiful reminder that, at the end of the day, everything was picture-perfect and one to remember for a lifetime,” Abby says. One of Abby’s favorite parts of the wedding were the flowers, arranged by Addie Jane Originals. She wanted the arrangements to look natural and organic, and her bouquet (complete with David Austin peach garden roses) pulled out the gold tones of her stunning Mori Lee wedding dress. Abby and Ryan also added tons of DIY projects to their wedding, which lent meaning to each detail, and her mother made the gluten-free wedding cake decorated with succulents out of her garden. Meanwhile, Ryan’s father printed all the stationery, the maid of honor painted the tree guest book, and Abby’s father made the dessert table. For dinner, the couple served a farm-to-table, family-style feast. Abby says the tradition of not seeing the bride before the ceremony added a romantic twist to their emotional ceremony. “Ryan wanted to keep the tradition of not seeing me until I walked down the aisle, but we couldn't stand the thought of not interacting with each other in some way until that moment,” Abby says. “We ended up exchanging gifts to each other, and Ryan said a prayer while we were each standing on opposite sides of a tree. We each shed many tears, and felt that it really prepared our hearts and minds for what was to come later that day. The moment I finally saw him for the first time as the church doors opened -- it literally took my breath away.”
