This rustic-chic wedding is totally Kentucky. “We are country people, and that was pretty evident throughout our wedding,” Molly Maggard (26 and a physician) says of her wedding to Mark Brockman (28 and a physician). Their venue, Walnut Way Farm, inspired the casual Kentucky style. The couple fell in love with the working horse farm, and when Molly first walked into the antique barn surrounded by rolling hills, she knew it was right. “Mark felt it too, and he squeezed my hand and said to me, ‘This is the perfect spot.’ ” They hosted their ceremony in the antique barn and kicked back in the stables donning cowboy boots for their reception. They carried the Kentucky theme to their menu, with a host of bourbon and cookies frosted in red and blue to show the couple’s playful rivalry between the University of Kentucky and the University of Louisville. GT Treats created a wedding cake with romantic ruffles that echoed the South, covered in fresh springtime flowers. “Our wedding cake was such a hit, we didn’t even get a piece,” the bride says. And instead of a groom’s cake, the couple served miniature derby, cherry and chess pies. Even their wedding favors were sweet. “My grandfather is a beekeeper, and we bottled some of his honey in little jam jars and gave it with a gift tag that read ‘You’re so sweet for coming.’ ” See the cute details, captured by Jennifer Thornhill Photography, below.

The bridesmaids chose their own style of chiffon dress in Alfred Angelo’s Loves First Blush color. The groomsmen dressed in casual navy suits.
The bride’s bouquet incorporated blush and ivory garden roses, tulips, ranunculus, peonies, dahlias, Queen Anne’s lace and eucalyptus wrapped in ivory ribbon.
Once Molly described her perfect wedding dress, her sisters and mom helped her find it. A Hayley Paige moscato ball gown with a full organza skirt and lace overlay was the perfect dress she envisioned.
Molly’s engagement ring is a vintage ring from the 1930s with an art-deco design.
“When we walked into the barn, I looked up and saw the crossbeams and the wind blowing the fields around us, and it just seemed so reverent and peaceful,” Molly says. The couple had their ceremony in the tobacco barn atop a hill at Walnut Way Farm in Shelbyville, Kentucky.
The dining-table centerpieces incorporated roses, dahlias, astilbes, Queen Anne’s lace and greenery in a rustic, wood-covered box. “We had pretty simple decorations because we didn’t want to take away from the beauty of the venue,” the bride says.

“Our wedding cake was such a hit, we didn’t even get a piece,” the bride says. The six-tier cake looked sweet and romantic with ruffled fondant and fresh pink flowers surrounding alternating layers.
Molly and Mark had special DIY wedding favors: “My grandfather is a beekeeper and we bottled some of his honey in little jam jars and gave it with a gift tag that read ‘You’re so sweet for coming.’ ”
