A Cozy Winter Wedding at Icon Lounge + Events in Sioux Falls, South Dakota

When Morgan DePerno (24 and a graduate student at Wake Forest Divinity program) met Bryan Wehrkamp (29 and a musician) at a charity event in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, she called him by the wrong name. “Morgan says it was an honest mistake, but I have my doubts,” Bryan jokes. After deciding on a cozy wintertime wedding in Sioux Falls (their hometown), the couple relied on emotions to guide their venue selection. “When we walked into Icon Lounge + Events, Morgan started to cry. So it became obvious which one we were going to go with,” Bryan says. “Since ours was a winter wedding, the aesthetic was important to us, and Icon’s tall ceilings, brick wall and wooden support beams with tall windows facing the street really gave the place a cozy feel without any decoration.” Versatility was a bonus; the ceremony space was quickly flipped into the reception area while the 200 guests were sipping cocktails. The warm, holiday-inspired palette—maroon, navy and gray with gold accents—was a perfect complement to the twinkle lights and candles used throughout the day. Family and friends played crucial roles throughout the event, including the groom’s mother, who made dozens of mini pork and turkey sandwiches to supplement the venue’s appetizers. After cutting the cake, Bryan surprised everyone with a song he composed for Morgan. “Music has always been the easiest way to communicate how I feel,” he says. “And it is, after all, what brought us together in the first place.” —Carolyn Meers
