A Delicate, Secret Garden Wedding at Battello in Jersey City, New Jersey
Catherine Cao (28 and an interior designer) and Norman Ha (31 and also an interior designer) used flowers to transform the loft venue into the secret garden from Catherine’s childhood fantasy. “I had a dream as a child of getting lost in the forest and stumbling upon a lush green area surrounded by white and pink flowers,” Catherine says. “I wanted to create a place full of flowers that just belonged to us.” The focal point of the day’s décor was the giant installation that hung from the ceiling. The couple made it themselves by stringing green and white silk wisteria flowers together on fishing line. Low pink and green centerpieces added dimension among the all-white décor and hanging white wisteria. Catherine wore an A-line lace dress with a sweetheart neckline and a matching removable bolero. She changed into a red cocktail dress for the reception to honor her Chinese heritage. Guests sipped signature cocktails, including the Storming Norman (a Dark ’N Stormy), on the venue’s deck facing the Manhattan skyline while the ceremony space was flipped for the reception. The couple's three-tier buttercream cake featured fresh pink ranunculus, hanging amaranthus and eucalyptus leaves.
