After opening a restaurant and a cafe next door to each other, strangers Joanna Hong (31) and Tom Yon (31) unknowingly began their film-worthy love story. "We hit it off immediately," Jo recalls of their adorably-uncommon meeting. Three years later, the two knocked down a wall, merged shops, opened another restaurant and got engaged. In search of a venue close to their Ann Arbor, Michigan, home, the couple ultimately chose Misty Farm in Ann Arbor for their rustic, two-day summer celebration. "Our design concept was influenced by the idea of throwing our friends and family a big, carefree bash where they could drink and dance freely, play yard games, smoke cigars and basically just let loose and celebrate," Jo says of their decision to keep things casual. The couple ultimately pulled off a fuss-free fete by making most of the decor themselves using local vintage vases, candleholders, plates and lace accents. The personal detail we loved most? Just how seamlessly Jo and Tom combined elements of their Korean heritage with their shared love of good food and strong cocktails. Before their wedding weekend, the pair held an intimate Korean paebaek ceremony before hosting a traditional American celebration the following evening (which they kicked off with a shot of their favorite Korean rice liquor). Since Jo had mentioned her love of untraditional engagement rings, Tom knew the type of diamond to propose with. "I would joke with Tom that I just wanted five types of cheap, trendy rings instead of one diamond," Jo says. Lo and behold, when Tom popped the question one Thursday morning by slipping a ring onto Jo's finger, he actually used five styles from Blanca Monros Gomez.

Wanting her bridesmaids to be comfortable, Jo allowed them to choose their own dresses within a specific pastel color range. The result: mismatched lace and chiffon details that worked seamlessly together. "It all turned out perfect," Jo says.
When an Ann Arbor farmer found out Jo and Tom were planning their wedding, she generously invited the couple to take what they needed from her farm. "She had been providing our businesses with fresh blooms for several years," Jo says. "My bridesmaids and I had so much fun putting together our own bouquets and making boutonnieres for the guys."
"I fell in love with my dress the instant I tried it on," Jo says of her lace Liancarlo design. "It fit my main criteria of being comfy, romantic and on the easy-breezy side." To accessorize her look, Jo kept things simple by doing her own makeup and wearing minimal jewelry. "I also threw on the comfiest pair of stilettos I could find," she says.
"I was drawn to peonies, garden roses, ferns and anything simple and romantic," Jo says of her lush flower choices.

Tom gave each of his groomsmen suspenders and bow ties, along with DIY boutonnieres crafted by the bride herself.
Tom accessorized his gray Indochino suit with a gold-toned tie, navy suspenders and a pair of oxfords Jo had given him years earlier.

The newlyweds used a soft color scheme of cream, champagne and blush to outfit their barn reception at Misty Farm in Ann Arbor, Michigan. "We just knew we wanted soft colors to complement the natural beauty of the space," Jo says. The bride's maid of honor even hand-sewed lace pennants that were later draped across the barn's ceiling!

In keeping with the intimate feel of the reception, Jo and Tom shared a table with their bridal party and their spouses. "We wanted to open up the night with a toast, so we had to take a massive group shot of soju—a Korean rice liquor—in honor of our favorite drink," Jo says.
