Liz Phelan (37 and an esthetician) and Joshua (Josh) Carey (39 and a designer) met by pure luck at Liz’s work holiday party, an unlikely location since Liz works in a salon with all women. He was dressed as a doctor, and she as a zombie Alice in Wonderland. The couple’s wedding took place under an old oak tree in Liz’s friend’s backyard in Newhall, California. “Josh and I wanted something eclectic, somewhat bohemian and something that was a true representation of us,” says Liz. Meaningful vintage details filled the celebration, such as books, painted mason jars, rugs and pillows. The bride’s wedding dress is very special to her, as she was able to incorporate both her grandmother’s and her mother’s wedding dresses. “Since my grandmother and my dad are no longer with us, it made me feel as though I had a piece of them there with me that day,” says Liz. Desert sunset hues of coral, peach, navy and gold inspired the color palette. The cocktail hour began as guests arrived to get the celebration started, and the party extended well into the evening with great food and dancing under the stars. The couple decided upon their favorite candy, See’s Scotch Kisses, personalized mason jar cocktail glasses and a heartfelt thank you note to send home with their attendees. “We are so grateful for all of our crafty and talented family and friends who helped see our vision through,” says Liz. “We wanted all who shared our special day to feel the love.”

Liz’s bouquet consisted of bright pink, orange and plush garden roses, dahlias, mums and wildflowers. She also wore a crown of full blush garden roses.
The groom wore a navy suit with a mint green tie, a coral pocket square and a leather flower lapel pin. He also wore a silver tie clip engraved with "Forever."

The sweetheart table carried a Cupid's arrow motif with an arrow striking a heart dart board on the tree behind them wooden arrows at the front of their table.
Desert sunset hues inspired the color palette. Floral arrangements of dahlias, billy balls and succulents in painted mason jars with gold centerpieces added bright pops of color to the dining tables.
Liz and her family created all the centerpieces and decor, which included old books and painted mason jars for a vintage and bohemian ambiance.
Josh designed all invitations and stationery. Thank you cards were left at each guest’s place setting with a personalized mason jar cocktail glass and bag of See’s Scotch Kisses.
