A DIY Garden Wedding at Hummingbird House in Manchaca, Texas

Katelyn (26 and a graphic artist) and Evan (26 and a design engineer) met on the first day of class their freshman year of college and were immediately friends. Five years later, something clicked and they both knew not only that they wanted to be together, but they wanted to get married! For the proposal, Evan set up a scavenger hunt for clues all around the couple’s apartment. The last clue led to a book that he had filled with pictures of the couple, and in the last 50 pages, he had cut out a heart for the rings to lay waiting. On top of that, Evan surprised Katelyn with a fancy dinner in a hotel and videos he had gathered of all of their friends and family wishing them the best. “I was a big mess of happy tears and squeals,” says Katelyn. The couple got married in Manchaca, Texas near Austin, because they love the city and artsy vibe. They also knew they wanted an outdoor wedding, so they chose Hummingbird House for its lush gardens and grounds. Their wedding style was whimsical and light, and the couple made almost everything themselves, from the decor to the stationery, and even had some help from family with dessert. Katelyn wore a light and airy ruffled chiffon ball gown with a strapless sweetheart neckline so she could be light and comfortable the whole day, and Evan wore a gray suit with a lavender boutonniere that included gears, a tribute to his career as an engineer. “I’d say the part of our wedding that reflects us the most was our vows,” says Katelyn. “We wrote our own, and read them in front of each other for the first time at the altar. We were both in tears, as were most of our guests!”
