A DIY Vintage Mountain Wedding at Smoky Mountain Haven in Sevierville, Tennessee
A wedding deep in the Smoky Mountains of Sevierville, Tennessee, feels like a scene straight out of "The Sound of Music." For their wedding weekend, Amy Shing (35 and a nurse practitioner) and Michael Holland (38 and a nurse) brought their 35 guests to Smoky Mountain Haven, a large private residence with a guest house where they could enjoy a vacation with their favorite people, totally uninterrupted and surrounded by breathtaking natural scenery. They said “I do” in front of a super-romantic mountain backdrop, and followed nearby with a reception in an open tent where guests could play lawn games. Amy and Michael’s wedding was full of repurposed vintage items, such as family heirlooms, teacups and china, old chests, bookcases, candelabras and a globe as their guest book (where guests signed on their favorite vacation spot). Even Amy’s lace wedding dress matched the vintage theme: She looked beautiful and timeless in her lace, illusion-back wedding dress. Amy and Michael also made many DIY decorations themselves, including their bold floral arrangements full of king proteas. A standout personal detail? Instead of a traditional wedding cake, they had a pie bar and topped their favorite with their favorite childhood toys (hers was a "My Little Pony" unicorn and his was an ewok from "Star Wars"). At the end of the night, the couple and their guests released eco-friendly wish lanterns into the dark mountain sky. See the details, captured by Star Noir Studio, below.
