A DIY Wedding at the Leapin' Lizard Lounge in Covington, Kentucky

Nikki Barton (26 and a homemaker) and Alex Tewes (27 and a construction supervisor) met through mutual friends watching “Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist” in a movie theater. They hung out for a few months before they started to date, and were together for five years prior to their engagement. In that time, the couple had a daughter together, Emmalynn. The proposal happened on their first family vacation to Gatlinburg, Tennessee, on a trolley stop bench. Nikki and Alex got married at the Leapin’ Lizard Lounge in Covington, Kentucky, an old church remodeled into a bar and wedding venue. The couple wrote their own vows to one another, picked some of their favorite songs to play and included their daughter in the sand ceremony. Navy blue and peach were the wedding colors, a combination of the couple’s favorite colors. Nikki wore a tea length wedding dress, her dream since before she was engaged to Alex. The groom wore a navy plaid shirt under his tan vest and jacket, and the couple’s daughter, Emmalynn, wore a tan dress with cream polka dots. The reception took place in a remodeled old barn where the couple added their own details to make it special. All of the books used in the decor belonged to Nikki and her mother. They had navy plaid table cloths to encourage a picnic-like atmosphere, and served barbecue to their guests. A family friend made the couple’s angel food cake, and Nikki hand-painted the cake toppers to look like the bride, groom, daughter and their dog. Following the big party on the dance floor, each guest left with a quilted mason jar as a favor.
