A Formal Black-Tie Wedding at The Ritz-Carlton New York, Battery Park in New York, New York
Nothing epitomizes New York City like risk-taking fashion, which is exactly why Tiffany Chan chose a bold Vera Wang design for her September wedding to Derek Liu. "I wanted the dress to be a bit different, so I found the most elegant, playful gown," Tiffany says of the dramatic black-and-white wedding dress. "My favorite part was the back, which contained hand-cut, silk organza petal details. It had such a stunning visual effect." But two ceremonies call for two different—and dramatic—dresses. "Before the start of our Western ceremony, we had a formal Chinese tea ceremony, where I wore a traditional red qipao dress that belonged to my mother," Tiffany says. "She had it made in Shanghai when she got married in the '70s." A regal palette of red and gold lent a luxe feel to the couple's elegant reception at the Ritz Carlton New York in New York, New York, while lush red rose details kept with Chinese tradition. "Red signifies love, prosperity and happiness at a wedding, so it was crucial for us to use it," Tiffany says. One detail we especially loved was the Rice Krispies Treats. "We loved the idea of a rice dessert, since many of our guests were Chinese," Tiffany says of the salted caramel and Oreo sweets. "We even etched the traditional Chinese double happiness character in gold font onto each one." For a peek at all the chic details, check out these shots by Joseph Lin Photography, below.
