A Formal Tuscan-Inspired Wedding at Sunstone Winery in Santa Ynez, Californi
As lovers of wine, Andrew (left) and Kevin decided to wed at Sunstone Winery in Santa Ynez, California. The Tuscan-style venue inspired the neutral, masculine, earth tone color palette of blue, brown and green. “We were fortunate to have a venue that was so beautiful in its own right, we didn’t have to do a lot to dress it up,” the couple says. “We added our own flourishes with signage and candles.” Andrew and Kevin opted for modern succulents over flowers placed in brass-framed glass terrariums, which lined the aisle during the ceremony and acted as centerpieces for the reception. Andrew wore a midnight-blue tuxedo with glossy black lapels and a black bow tie, complementing Kevin’s textured midnight-blue coat, black bow tie and black slacks. “A close family friend officiated our marriage with a secular ceremony that relied heavily on the gay experience, complete with an unfurled rainbow flag at its conclusion,” the couple says. After the ceremony, guests attended cocktail hour with passed appetizers and a fresh mozzarella bar before heading to a rustic-modern cave reception warmly lit by iron candle chandeliers.
Our favorite #MakeTradition Moment: “During our ceremony, we not only wrote our own vows for one another, but we also selected a wine varietal to symbolize our partner and his personality. After we described each other with wine, our matrons of honor poured each other a glass and then switched sides to symbolize the joining of the two families. It was a fun reveal for both of us to hear what the other had chosen, and our guests gushed over how much they enjoyed this unique aspect of the ceremony,” the couple says.
