A Formal Wedding At The Athletic Club in Detroit, Michigan

Avery Kerr (29 and an attorney) and Ian Gordon (29 and a financial sales professional) went to college together but didn't meet until senior year, when a mutual friend brought them together. After college, their careers and education brought them first to Boston and then to San Francisco. They dated for seven years before deciding to tie the knot. For their ceremony, Avery and Ian chose the historic campus of Christ Church Cranbrook in Michigan, the Episcopalian preparatory school the bride attended. The bride chose this location because of her deep family ties to the church. (Her parents even met there and went to prom together!) Their ceremony and wedding were black tie, formal events. Avery wore a custom silk ball gown with cap sleeves for her traditional church wedding, and Ian wore a classic black and white tux with a green and white boutonniere. The couple had their reception at the Detroit Athletic Club, which was also celebrating its 100th anniversary. Their guests were greeted at the door by a white glove waitstaff and flutes of champagne before heading into a formal seated dinner. The table decor was minimal and elegant: green and white centerpieces and white stationary decorated with gold laurels, to play up their simple color palette. Their color palette was lush and fresh, and included lots of green and navy with classic white accents. They also incorporated their custom monogram (their initials encircled by a gold laurel) created by Aerialist Press in San Francisco, California throughout their reception decor.
