A Fun DIY Wedding in Rolling Hills, California

Christina Cai (25 and nurse) and Alex Siu (26 and a computer programmer) met in high school when they both played volleyball. They went to separate universities, but sustained a long distance relationship for eight years. Alex proposed by secretly having his friends plan him a surprise scavenger hunt for his birthday. Christina thought that she was a part of a great birthday surprise for Alex, while in actuality it was all part of a greater plan to get her to the scenic spot where Alex would pop the question. The Christian couple held their ceremony at Rolling Hills Community Church in California. The knew they wanted a church ceremony for religious reasons, and they liked the church's grand southern architecture, as well as its proximity to a quaint petting zoo next door with horses. They chose a simple color palette of oranges and yellows with contrasting grays and purples. According the bride, the couple wanted to keep everything as simple as possible at their DIY affair. Christina and Alex held their reception at Bridges Golf Club in California. They chose the golf club was because of its spectacular views from the grand ballroom. (And the added fun of rented golf carts!) In keeping with their DIY theme, chose two of their friends to emcee their reception. They led some games involving the bride and groom. In one game, the groom was blindfolded and had to pick out the bride from a line of people by only feeling their elbows. Alex and Christina also tossed around a mini volleyball, in honor of how they met.
