A Funky Wedding at Bat Haus in Brooklyn, New York
Emily Humphrey (30 and a health coach) and Ericka Hart (29 and a health educator) met while serving in the Peace Corps in Ethiopia. On a sunny September day, the couple exchanged vows by the lake in Prospect Park, Brooklyn. They invited their guests to be active parts of their ceremony and say “we do” together, encouraging their loved ones to hold them accountable for their promises to one another. Before heading to the reception at Bat Haus in Bushwick, Brooklyn, the brides and their wedding party, wearing hues of red and charcoal, took in the colorful murals in the neighborhood. Emily and Ericka shared their first dance as newlyweds to John Legend’s “Stay With You.” Emily is a fan of punk music, so the couple and their guests danced to lots of punk tunes as well as R&B and hip-hop. In between rounds of dancing, Ericka surprised Emily with a rendition of “Eight Days a Week” from The Beatles. The newlyweds sent their guests home with succulents as favors because, as they say, “We wanted people to have something that would just keep growing forever.”
