A Glam Modern Wedding at Harold Washington Library in Chicago, Illinois
When Boston-based couple Lindsey Kranz (31 and a teacher) and Nathan Ott (31 and in finance) began planning their August wedding in Chicago, the couple had no idea they'd find their dream venue in the least likely of places. "Our planner, Beth Bernstein from SQN Events, introduced us to the Harold Washington Library," Lindsey says. "At first I didn't think I would entertain the idea, but after seeing it, I knew it was the place. You can't get a more unique venue – the glass ceiling alone sold me!" Armed with a classic white and gold color scheme complete with chic pops of navy, both Lindsey and Nate used personalized details – including a Chicago-themed invitation suite and custom monogram – throughout their special day. "My favorite pieces were the escort cards and tri-fold hotel notes," the bride says. "Stephanie Parks Cowgill drew maps of the area and added an illustrated timeline of events as well as our favorite Chicago spots. We designed the escort cards to look like library cards – we even stamped our wedding date on them as the 'due date'." Dressed in a sleek organza Enzoani gown (that matched her three-tier cake!) the bride and her groom exchanged vows on a simple, fabric-draped stage in front of 185 guests. Immediately following their hydrangea-filled ceremony, the newlyweds and their wedding guests enjoyed a cocktail hour complete with snacks that paid homage to their new city of Boston. "Food tasting was by far my favorite part of the planning process," Lindsey recalls. "The little Red Sox pendants on our mini lobster rolls added some Boston flair!" The couple even set up a photo booth and lounge along with a much-needed dessert and coffee station as the night pressed on. As for wedding day advice for future Chicago brides? "Make a shot list on an actual piece of paper for your photographer!" Lindsey says. "And always wear your hair up for an August wedding in the city – you never know what to expect with the wind and weather!"
