A Glam, Modern Wedding at The Gramercy in Hazlet, New Jersey

As chance would have it, Igetei Omokhuwa (25 and a registered nurse) and Ijeh Emmanuel (33 and a software engineer) met at a birthday party in the fall of 2008 and instantly hit it off. A first date followed only a few weeks later and after five years of dating Ijeh decided to pop the question, getting down on one knee at Bethesda Fountain in New York City’s Central Park with a string quartet playing their favorite song in the background. With the help of planner Marvin Velazquez of Lily V Events, the couple threw a blowout affair at The Gramercy in Hazlet, NJ. To reflect their unique personalities and styles, the couple opted for a modern, romantic theme with a bold fuchsia, gold and ivory color palette. In addition to a traditional Nigerian wedding ceremony that took place earlier in the week, Igetei and Ijeh gathered their families and friends together at St. Benedict Catholic Church before the reception for a classic western style ceremony. After saying their “I do’s,” the couple and their guests headed to The Gramercy for an unforgettable evening of celebrating. Lily V Events transformed the venue’s ballroom into a captivating, romantic scene with tall, eye-catching centerpieces filled with full ivory and pink blooms, warm, ambient candlelight, textured table linens and a striking floral backdrop. After a sit down dinner the party kicked into high gear with the couple and their guests dancing the night away to an upbeat mix of Nigerian and American pop music. And as an extra special touch, Igetei serenaded Ijeh with the song “Angel of Mine” by Monica. A tip for the taking from Igetei: “The photos and video are the only things that will be able to capture the memories of that day, so make sure that part of the event planning is on par. Make a list of the types of photos you want and do them during your first look. There might not be time later in the day to do so.”
