Lula Geday (31 and a real estate agent) and Darnell Edmonds’s (33 and a market manager) two-day celebration was 18 months in the making. It began with an intimate ceremony at a private estate in Sedalia—one that felt natural and stately all at once. “It was important to incorporate both our styles and personalities into our day,” Lula says. “We wanted to provide our guests with an experience that was different from what they were accustomed to.” Their ceremony included a unity candle lighting with their moms and followed with drinks amid jaw-dropping views.
“I looked for statement jewelry that was atypical of a bride but still elegant,” Lula says. In that spirit, she chose chandelier earrings. On Sunday, the guest count nearly quadrupled—650 joined for an Ethiopian-Eritrean ceremony in Denver. Lula wore a traditional dress with a twist. “I wanted something that was couture inspired and modern that also respected my culture,” she says. That culminated in a turquoise-blue gown. She and her bridesmaids also partook in a henna ceremony. “I wanted a regal, romantic look for my bridesmaids,” Lula says. Lula's ladies channeled that with velvet gowns. Gold, mauve, champagne and green were natural color selections for the outdoor reception. White hydrangeas in clear trumpet vases and greenery runners amplified the neutral scene. After dinner, guests enjoyed a Bavarian fruit cream-filled cake, then danced to hip hop, R&B and Ethiopian tunes.
