A Glamorous Vintage Wedding at Thompson Barn in Lenexa, Kansas
Inspired by the “Back To The Future” car, Angela Topf (25 and a hair stylist) got for Aaron Hughes (30 and works in sales) as his wedding gift, the couple had a glamorous vintage wedding full of rustic details. “Aaron is a huge 'Back to the Future' fan,” Angela says. “I surprised him with a replica of the 'Back to the Future' DeLorean time machine. Walking out of the ceremony, our guests were throwing sprinkles at us, the song ‘The Power of Love’ from the 'Back to the Future' soundtrack was playing, and then he saw the car. His face was like a little kid on Christmas.” One of the best parts, though, was Angela’s gorgeous modified A-line wedding dress. She took pieces of her mother’s and Aaron’s mother’s wedding dresses to Jossie Prinsloo, who gorgeously created Angela’s dream dress. It was a total added bonus that the dress was full of sentimental value and unique to her. The couple chose Thompson Barn in Lenexa, Kansas, for their venue because they loved the mix of exposed brick, unfinished wood and barrel-vaulted ceilings. Plus, they could have their ceremony and reception in the same place. Sara Marie Photography gorgeous captured all the details of the day. Wanting their wedding to be classically them, Angela and Aaron created a lot of glamorous DIY details, such as Angela’s vintage broach bouquet, which was tied with Aaron’s baby bonnet, as well as the vintage Jack Daniel’s bottles filled with gold glitter, lights and baby’s breath. The delicious menu added an local feel to the Kansas wedding. “Our dinner was straight up from the pig farm,” Angela says. “We had a full hog roast presentation with the apple in the mouth and everything. Loaded taters, beans -- the whole nine yards. Delicious!” Instead of a traditional wedding cake, the couple had a tower of donuts from Big Daddy Donuts, and at the end of the night, guests went home with customized shot glasses and a mini bottle of Jack Daniel’s. “It was a day filled with so much love and so much spirit,” Angela says.
