A Horse Racing-Inspired Wedding at Big Survey Plantation in Yemassee, South Carolina
Brogann Sanderson (39) and Jonathon (Jon) Bowden (42 and dentist/owner of Bowden Dental, L.L.C.) had a lot in common when they were first introduced by a mutual friend: they lived a block away from each other, each had children at the local elementary school and both had recently lost a spouse to cancer within just months of one other. Brogann and Jon instantly connected over their shared experiences and decided to merge their families the following year after Jon proposed at Bedford Springs Resort. Brogann and Jon exchanged vows at the bride's family plantation in Yemassee, South Carolina. The plantation has a deep history in horse racing and the couple drew inspiration for their purple color palette from the stable's horse racing colors. Brogann's great grandmother was also thoroughbred horse racer and her riding boots and antique accents were utilized throughout the rustic decor. The newlywed's three children were involved in all aspects of the November nuptials and considered throughout the planning. From paintings depicting what they thought the Salty Dog signature cocktails were to a separate kids' tent complete with 30 of their friends, Connor, Stevie and Clementine were honored throughout the wedding to celebrate the union of their family of five. "We wanted to make the day as personal as possible to bring guests into our love story," says Brogann. "We took advantage of every opening we could to add a personal touch and share the small details with our guests."
