A Hyper-Local Yellow Wedding at James P. Davis Hall in Kansas City, Kansas

This wedding couldn't have been closer to home! Amanda Curtis (32 and a documentary film producer) and Shawn Lillig (30 and family medicine physician) made sure everything—from the microbrews to the dinner menu and the lavender seed favors—was locally sourced. “I'm from Missouri and Shawn is from Kansas, but each of us has lived on both sides of the state line,” Amanda says. “We really wanted our wedding to reflect our home states.” Wanting the same at-home feel for their venue, the couple easily chose James P. Davis Hall in Kansas City, Kansas. They loved the woodland space for the ceremony, intimate patio for the cocktail hour and the rustic stone ballroom for the reception. The most local aspect of the day was the delicious roasted pork and handpicked greens dinner by chef Michael from the Farmhouse. They paired it with their favorite microbrews from 4 Hands Brewery in St. Louis, Missouri, and wine from Holyfield Winery in Basehor, Kansas. Another standout detail? The periodic table groom’s cake. “Shawn's a doctor, and he loves all things science-related,” Amanda says. "He has a periodic table of elements T-shirt that he's worn for good luck during every big test he's had all through medical school and residency, which I took to Babycakes to use as a guide for color and design. They brought his T-shirt to life.” See all our favorite details, beautifully captured by M and E Photo Studio, below.
