A Kentucky Derby–Inspired Wedding at Hilton St. Louis at Ballpark in St. Louis, Missouri
Trish Kreikemeier (30 and a pediatric nurse) and Andy Ruszkowski (30 and a marketing manager) met at the Kentucky Derby, which inspired the equine references, fun hats and seersucker accents prevalent in their pink- and blue-tinged day. “Because the wedding was on Kentucky Derby Day, we enjoyed planning all the little details that we knew would make it stand out,” Trish says. On the inside cover of the programs, an illustrated timeline depicted Trish and Andy’s love story, which included Andy’s move to St. Louis, their engagement and, ultimately, their “I dos.” The Catholic ceremony took place at the same cathedral where Trish’s parents were married in 1969. As wedding favors, each guest got a special 143rd running of the Kentucky Derby signature mint julep glass with a mini bottle of bourbon and thank-you note inside. “This was a very special treat considering we were getting married on Derby Day, and you usually can only get the glasses at Churchill Downs,” Trish says. To top it all off, the newlyweds screened the race during the cocktail hour.
