A Laid-Back Military Wedding at Forsyth Park in Savannah, Georgia

Jessica Straits met Josh Cruse in high school when both of their fathers were in the Army and stationed in Upstate New York. After six years of dating, Jessica moved to Alabama where Josh was about to start his year of flight school and the couple moved in together. "At his flight school graduation, as I went on stage to 'pin' his new wings onto his uniform, Josh proposed to me in front of his family, friends, instructor pilots and the entire audience," says Jessica. "It was completely unexpected, especially since we're both the type of people to keep things laid-back and casual!" For their spring wedding, Jessica and Josh exchanged vows at Forsyth Park in Savannah, Georgia with historic oak trees and an elegant fountain as their backdrop. The couple hoped to achieve a "Charleston casual" feel for their laid-back celebration and worked with a variety of DIY accents to enhance their gold, peach, mint and emerald color palette. "We combined the military theme with more of our relaxed sense of style," says Jessica. "The ceremony was more formal, as the men were in uniform and we did the arch of swords, but the reception was much more casual!"
