The night ended with a s’mores table and an outdoor fire pit; on the way there, guests were handed sparklers and the bridal party was given Japanese wish lanterns. “We all bid farewell by lighting up the night sky,” recounts Elaine.
The lakeside ceremony took place just before sunset under a branch archway decorated with flowers and hanging votive candles. “I wanted to remember those who had passed. I collected pictures of those family members, put each one in a mason jar with LED candles and hung the jars from the arch,” Elaine says.
Toasting the Bride and Groom
The tables in the reception room were oblong, so Elaine and her florist agreed that low-yet-long centerpieces would be the best way to adorn them. The arrangements of succulents, roses, moss and lavender were placed inside wooden flower boxes and surrounded by candles. Tables were set with simple white linens.

The ceremony programs, designed by a friend of the couple, included a section of fun facts. as Elaine puts it: “We wanted something interesting for guests to read while they waited for the ceremony to begin.”

The florist added succulents to Elaine’s champagne- and cream-colored rose bouquet to fulfill the bride’s request for purple.
The groomsmen wore the same suit as Shaun minus the jacket. Colorful tube socks, with funny words and phrases written down the side, completed the look.
Creative Escort Card Pin
Because Elaine and Shaun’s vanilla buttercream cake had a “rustic” texture, the florist added fresh flowers to dress it up.

The escort cards were a DIY project. “I had a friend’s mother write out all the guests’ names on shipping labels and ordered custom button pins through Etsy to hot glue onto each card,” Elaine explains.
