A stunning castle set the scene for Rekha Mahale (35 and a pediatrician) and Mihir Patel's (33 and a corporate bond trader) storybook spring celebration. “I didn’t think a fairy-tale wedding was possible unless we wed somewhere in Europe,” Rekha says of her search for the perfect venue that could accommodate 250 guests. “When we found Oheka Castle, which is so close to New York City, it almost seemed too perfect.” Prior to the start of the ceremony, Mihir made his grand entrance, or baraat, in a vintage Rolls-Royce to the sound of Indian dhol drummers. “Our parents immigrated here 50 years ago, so it was important for us to have both Indian and American cultures represented at our wedding,” Rekha says of the colorful affair. After digging into a coconut buttercream cake, guests took home gift bags filled with personalized swag, including monogrammed glasses and decorative elephant place cards—a symbol of good luck in Indian culture. “It’s nice to visit our friends’ homes and actually see them using our favors,” Rekha says.
