A Modern Fusion Wedding at The Nines Hotel in Portland, Oregon
Misbah Akhtar and Frank Tea planned a celebration for 250 guests at The Nines Hotel. "Our wedding style was romantic and modern with bright colors and some details from both of our cultures included in the day," Misbah says (the bride is Pakistani and the groom is Chinese). The color palette included pewter, white and shades of pink and red—a lucky color in Chinese culture. After a traditional tea ceremony to honor Frank's heritage, Misbah got ready with her crew. She donned a long-sleeved wedding gown with details that emulated a Hindu saree. Frank chose a navy-blue tuxedo with black lapel details and pants. The nondenominational Western ceremony, which included handwritten vows, took place on the rooftop with a picturesque view of Portland. The couple stood beneath a mandap with white draping and red flower arrangements. The neutral-colored reception, featuring gray linens, red centerpieces and chiavari chairs, followed in the ballroom, where the couple changed into traditional Pakistani outfits and provided Chinese lion dancers for entertainment. The unique dinner menu incorporated Asian-inspired flavors with a modern twist. To end the night, the couple served a multi-tier fondant creation with flower details. They also shared a first dance beneath purple-hued lights in the ballroom.
