A Modern Garden Wedding at Spanish Point in Sarasota, Florida
Derek and Herman Fusko put a masculine twist on their timeless garden wedding with a color palette of black, white and gold and lots of earthy, natural touches. Wanting the beauty of the venue to be the main focus, the pair hosted the cocktail hour and the reception outdoors in Spanish Point’s lush gardens. Convinced it wouldn’t be possible to do flowers in a masculine way, the couple originally planned to skip them all together. The florists at the Twisted Twig put their reservations to rest, creating bold bouquets of ivory roses, waxflowers, astilbes, silver brunia and textured greenery arranged in statement gunmetal vases and hollowed driftwood. Black dinnerware and mirrored accents completed the elegantly edgy look. While the venue was the focal point of the fete, Derek and Herman made sure to incorporate a few personalized details, including a “Love you more” cake topper and custom-made suits. “We wanted to have a cohesive look but not look identical—which is sort of a challenge with two grooms,” Derek says. “We both wore black and white, but in different ways that reflected our personal style.” At the end of the night, the newlyweds made their getaway in a vintage Rolls-Royce. “The only thing I wish we had done was get a videographer,” Derek says. “We didn’t think we wanted one, but after the day is over and you forget and miss so much—it would have been great to have captured the day in a video.”
