A Modern Outdoor Wedding at Avalon Hotel Palm Springs in Palm Springs, California

Surrounded by mountainous views of the desert in Palm Springs, California, the Avalon Hotel Palm Springs (formerly known as Viceroy Palm Springs) served as a lush oasis for Philip Johnson (33 and an interior design sales manager) and Ryan O'Meara's (31 and owner of an interior design company) modern wedding with a sophisticated style. "We visit Palm Springs often, and it's a nice place for us to escape and relax,” the couple says. “Also, being in the field of interior design, we love the inspiration Palm Springs has to offer.” The palette of whites, grays, tan and yellow was reflected in the choice of wedding day apparel: Ryan's white button-up jacket with tan dress pants and Philip's dark tan suit. The ceremony took place outside on the lawn surrounded by lavishly trimmed landscaping, where Christine Arnold Photography captured Philip and Ryan getting married underneath a large white canopy. Pops of yellow were brought into the decor through flower arrangements that ranged from rose pomanders at the altar to the lush rose and hydrangea centerpieces arranged inside glass vases, created by Artisan Event Floral Decor. The reception that followed took place on a separate lawn space nearby, where guests were seated at long tables draped with black-and-white runners designed with Greek key patterns. We loved the canary yellow calla lily bouquets held by the bridesmaids and the pocket squares tucked into Philip's and Ryan's jackets—both accented with lace and ribbon that held a deeper meaning past the beautiful appearance. "The most important handmade element was the pocket squares and the bouquet ribbons," the couple says. "They were created from the satin and lace of Philip’s mother's wedding dress. She passed away last July, and it was a way to keep her spirit present during the wedding day."
