A Modern, Outdoor Wedding at Gibbes Museum of Art in Charleston, South Carolina

Courtney Hutton Harris (34 and a pilates instructor) and B.J. Harris (37 and a landscaper) met at a bar while both were attending the University of Georgia. They dated for about a decade before B.J. proposed. Courtney admits that marriage wasn't always a priority in their relationship but when B.J. proposed on a beach surrounded by flowers and candles, she knew without a doubt that she wanted to marry him. They decided to have their wedding in the outdoor courtyard at the Gibbes Museum of Art in Charleston, South Carolina. "The art museum was the perfect combination of characteristics of why we love Charleston," Courtney says, "historic southern style mixed with modern progressive design." Courtney and B.J. wanted a very colorful wedding with vibrant pops of red, blue, green and orange. "We were inspired by simple clean architecture with pops of color," Courtney says. She also admits to not being a fan of flowers but loves succulents, therefore, flower arrangements were mostly made using red pincushions and succulents with a few brightly colored flowers. "Every part of the day had us written all over it," Courtney says, "which was so cool since we didn't consciously do that." With vibrant colors, candle light and a large open space, Courtney and B.J.'s contemporary wedding came to life.
