A Modern, Tropical Wedding at the Vinoy Renaissance Hotel in St. Petersburg, Florida
Geometric accents, punchy shades of pink and tropical flourishes lent a modern bohemian vibe to Amanda Smith and Zack Melnick’s spring wedding. The pair kept the festivities close to home, tying the knot at the Vinoy Renaissance Hotel, only a stone’s throw from where they live. The venue’s tropical tea garden played host to the ceremony and cocktail hour. It’s swaying palms and pink, old-Florida-style pergola inspired the bold blooms that dotted the property. Garlands of palm leaves, fresh fruit and bright pink peonies, proteas and roses framed the couple as they exchanged vows and spilled out of the fountain at the back of the aisle. Colorful paper flowers and palm leaf paper brightened up the rustic wood bar during cocktail hour, with a suspended neon script sign promoting the couple’s wedding hashtag. The newlyweds continued the modern-meets-old-Florida theme into the reception with geometric chargers, copper monstera leaf seating signs and a sunset-inspired ombré doughnut wall. Instead of hanging signs from their chairs, Amanda and Zack marked their spot at the head table with a statement floral arch and geometric monogram. Wanting their cat to be a part of the day, the pair used his face as a marker for their home on the maps included in their invitations and had a watercolor artist paint his face with a sombrero and maracas on the koozies they gifted to guests at the reception. The night ended with a bang with everyone out on the dance floor, busting a move to “I Wanna Dance with Somebody” by Whitney Houston. “We had confetti and streamers flying from every direction, and the photos are just magical,” Amanda says. “Plus, there was an inch of confetti on the floor that I got to roll around in afterward—and who doesn’t want to roll around in confetti?”
