A Modern Boho Wedding at Vintage Ballroom in Omaha, Nebraska
After meeting at a restaurant, Justin Halbert proposed to Taylor Houston with his late mother's ring on the Platte River. The pair planned to tie the knot along the same waterfront, but due to flooding, they moved their wedding to Vintage Ballroom in Omaha, Nebraska. "We wanted our wedding to be really personal," the couple says. "We had no specific theme, but we were going for a very romantic, bohemian vibe." The ballroom already had plenty of vintage-inspired décor—including velvet sofas and Edison lights—so Taylor and Justin relied on flower arrangements to spruce things up. "The flowers really played the biggest part in the overall design element," the couple says. "We put flowers in amber, teal and clear bottles for the centerpieces and at various spots around the space." Many of the arrangements included peonies (Taylor's favorite flower) and lilacs (the favorite flower of Justin's late mother). "Justin planted lilac bushes in her memory at our house, so we used trimmings from those to add to the décor around the room as well," Taylor added. The indoor ceremony took place under a gold circular arch covered in peonies, while the modern reception was in a vintage-inspired ballroom. String lights lit up the black tablecloths and ceiling, while burgundy, blush, gray and blue accents tied everything together.
Our favorite #MakeTradition moment: "We chose not to incorporate any cultural or religious traditions, but instead had one of our close friends marry us," the couple says.
