A Mountain Meadow Wedding at Wild Basin Lodge in Allenspark, Colorado

Kirsten Cooner (21 and a professional studio artist) met Austin Cooner (26 and in the Air Force) first met at a rock climbing gym in Portland, Oregon, while he was visiting family in town. They had their first date the next day, before Austin flew to Colorado to return to the Air Force Academy. The pair started dating long-distance, but visits to Colorado and outdoor hiking and climbing adventures became the foundation for their relationship. No surprise that they chose a mountain destination wedding to bring their families together for their celebration. Sticking to a guest list of 35 people, the pair wanted to keep the day intimate and small so that they could enjoy and appreciate every person who attended. Even planning the wedding was a family affair: The groom's sister was the florist, the couple played DJ with their own playlist connected to Wild Basin Lodge's sound system and Kirsten and her mother made many of the homespun details. But ultimately it was all about the mountain setting and the natural beauty of Colorado that brought the bride and groom together from the beginning. —Rory Kress
