A Mountaintop Elopement at Alyeska Resort in Girdwood, Alaska
After a nine-year engagement and the birth of their daughter, Tricia Berman (a real estate agent) and Tom Arehart (a real estate agent) eloped on top of a mountain after pulling together outfits, guests, a venue and wedding cake in just four days. When the couple were hanging out with Tricia's family, Tom suggested the pair officially tie the knot on top of Mount Alyeska in just 96 hours. He even had a graphic designer friend create an invitation that “started the surprise,” then handed out an invitation to everyone in the family. He then paired up with a planner to organize the summit nuptials and celebratory dinner at the Alyeska Resort's restaurant. Tricia set out to find "the dress," hitting three bridal salons to find her classic ball gown with sweetheart neckline and the winter-worthy faux-fur cape for the chilly February weather. As for shoes? She donned cowboy boots!
"We are obviously very unconventional," Tricia says. "A nine-year engagement, 18-month-old daughter, Tom marrying me in four days—do what makes you happy." In fact, Tom's original proposal to Tricia came at grand heights as well. After hiding her ring in the 18th hole during a day golfing together in Florida, he surprised her with a helicopter ride tour of Miami, plus champagne and chocolate-covered strawberries. "Our engagement, like Tom, was over the top," she adds. Her advice to future couples: "Marry someone who continues to surprise you."—Chrissy Sorenson
