A Natural, Rustic Wedding With DIY Elements at Angelus Mountain Center in Altadena, California

Although the grounds at Angelus Mountain Center overlook the bustling downtown Los Angeles area, anyone who attended this rustic wedding decked out in DIY details felt completely in touch with Mother Nature. Surrounded by tall oak trees and nearby mountains, Kelly Baden (32 and an attorney) and Jeric Arpon (39 and a graphics technician) knew the Center in Altadena, California, was the perfect place to hold their outdoor ceremony from the moment they walked onto the property. “On one of our first walk-throughs, we noticed it was absolutely quiet and away from the city,” Kelly says. “When we heard a rustling in the grass and a deer walked out, we took it as a good omen.” The color palette of white and gold mixed with wood and greenery added natural touches to the already-natural space, which was captured by Yes, Dear Studio. Although the couple had assistance from Poppy & Plum Events, they loved to be crafty and created most of the decor with the help of loved ones—from signs made of wood that resembled the National Park Service signs to all the bouquets and boutonnieres, and even the tassels that hung from their large, white balloons. Our favorite DIY detail had to be the tree-sapling centerpieces wrapped in burlap, reflecting the natural ambience of the day and doubled as gifts for guests to take home and plant. “We made, modified or accented so many things so they fit our style and taste,” Kelly says. “I think all the handmade touches really reflected us as a couple.”
