A Natural Woods Wedding at Big Bear Lodge in Grand Marais, Minnesota

While planning their destination wedding along the shores of Lake Loon in northern Minnesota, to-be-weds Isabelle Bogen (26 and a graduate student) and Marcos Stoffel (27 and an executive chef) quickly settled on a small, secluded island on the Gunflint Trail. "We love camping, hiking and being surrounded by nature," Isabelle says. "My family has a cabin on the lake and it's always been a special piece of land for me and my family." With the help of two self-proclaimed "planning queens" (her mom and sister), Isabelle used a color palette of navy blue and purple to truly capture the natural beauty of the surrounding woods. String lights and paper lanterns were hung throughout the ceremony space, and the bride's mother made DIY birch bark cones filled with wildflowers that she had specifically grown for the special day. After exchanging vows in a secluded outdoor ceremony, the couple and their guests returned to shore via various boats (pontoons and canoes included!) to celebrate with a rustic reception at Big Bear Lodge. "We made our ceremony exit in a canoe sent off by both of our parents," the bride says. "We made sure to pack fruit and wine and just paddled to a quiet part of the lake to enjoy our afternoon."
