A Nautical Wedding at Mystic Seaport in Mystic, Connecticut

After being together through high school, college and a move to New York City, Morgan (25 and a speech language pathologist) and Joseph (24 and an event marketing coordinator) got engaged just before Christmas in 2011. Joseph proposed to Morgan with a sapphire ring. “He managed to find a quiet spot on a cold evening in a very busy city,” says Morgan. Then the couple celebrated with dinner and champagne. The couple knew they wanted to get married near their hometowns in Connecticut, so they chose the Mystic Seaport in Mystic, Connecticut for their wedding. “We visited a handful of potential sights, from rustic barn houses to traditional banquet halls, but once we arrived and toured the seaport we knew it was the one. It was unique, but elegant. We could personalize it to reflect our personalities and the venue would be perfect for a summer evening wedding,” says Morgan. They chose a color palette of navy and bright yellow to play up the nautical vibe of their reception venue. They kept the decor casual with DIY touches. “We wanted our family to feel comfortable and relaxed and that notion guided our wedding style throughout the planning,” says Morgan. Morgan and Joseph’s main goal in planning their wedding was to make it personal. “Guests felt free to take off their shoes on the dance floor, flip flops were provided to get them moving. As soon as guest finished dinner, they were invited on the dance floor where they stayed the remainder of the evening. Glow sticks and sparklers provided additional entertainment,” says Morgan.
