A Nautical Wedding at Riverside Yacht Club in Riverside, Connecticut

Amber Sheldon (31 and works for a retained executive search firm) and Alex Moore (32 and a Yahoo! account executive) shared a vision for their wedding

Amber Sheldon (31 and works for a retained executive search firm) and Alex Moore (32 and a Yahoo! account executive) shared a vision for their wedding: They both wanted a tented reception on a lawn at a yacht club, making the Riverside Yacht Club in Riverside, Connecticut, an easy choice of venue. The ceremony took place in St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, decorated with a white aisle runner, candles and flowers to create a sophisticated and romantic ambience. Following the recessional, guests moved to the yacht club for an outdoor cocktail hour with the water and boats serving as the backdrop. White tables decorated in fishing nets and wicker lounge seating with seashell-patterned pillows kicked up the nautical theme. The sailcloth-tented reception featured bistro lighting over gray tables decorated in lanterns, gold-painted seashells and blue koozie wedding favors with anchors. A color palette of gray, coral and navy with gold and turquoise accents created a beachy, chic atmosphere. After Amber and Alex shared their first dance as newlyweds to “You Are the Best Thing” by Ray LaMontagne, guests kicked up their heels to tunes from the Central Park Orchestra. “They played a huge part in making the night so ridiculously fun!” says Amber.

Amber’s bouquet included ivory roses and garden roses with succulents, dusty miller and subtle pops of blue flowers to nod to the nautical color palette.

The ring bearer was the couple’s nephew. He wore a seersucker suit, blue tie and navy boat shoes. “It was the cutest thing ever!” says Amber.
The 13 bridesmaids wore coral dresses with turquoise earrings and bracelets, gifts from the bride. The 12 groomsmen sported nautical-inspired suits with blue boat shoes. “The shoes made the outfit!” says the bride.
Early on, the bride knew she wanted a white, form-fitting lace wedding dress with straps. When she and her maid of honor spotted a mermaid-style Monique Lhuillier wedding dress, the search was over. “It was gorgeous, light, fun and would be easy to dance in. At that moment I knew ‘this is it.’”
